KYC & AML Policy
Last updated 4 October 2026
Rainpay operates in partnership with licensed financial institutions and applies customer identification and anti-money-laundering controls consistent with Nigerian law, including the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act and Central Bank of Nigeria guidance. This page summarises those controls for customers and partners.
Customer identification
Every customer must be identified before transacting. We collect name, date of birth, phone number, BVN and NIN, and match a live selfie against the customer's official record through a licensed verification provider. Only the last four digits of the BVN and NIN are retained alongside the check result.
Ongoing monitoring
Account and transaction activity is monitored for patterns that do not fit the customer's profile. Unusual activity may trigger additional questions, temporary limits or a request for supporting documents.
Screening
Customers are screened against applicable sanctions and politically exposed person sources through our partners. Matches are reviewed before an account is allowed to transact.
Limits and risk tiers
Transaction and balance limits are applied according to the level of verification completed and the risk profile of the account, in line with our partners' requirements.
Reporting and record keeping
Suspicious activity is reported to the appropriate Nigerian authorities through our licensed partners. Identity and transaction records are retained for at least the statutory minimum period.
Prohibited activity
We do not support money laundering, terrorist financing, fraud, pyramid or Ponzi schemes, sale of illegal goods, or any activity prohibited under Nigerian law or by our partners. Accounts involved in such activity are frozen and reported.
Staff and governance
Compliance responsibilities are assigned to named individuals, staff receive financial crime training, and controls are reviewed as the product and regulatory expectations change.
